The Ricardo J. Barbosa Foundation Inc. was created in memory of Police Officer Ricardo J. Barbosa. He was a member of the 3rd precinct in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey for 6 years from July 2016, through October 2022. The last 4 years of his career he served as a Community/School Resource Officer. He enjoyed working with the community and especially interacting with the students. Since his passing his family learned even more about the selfless human he was, through all the stories the community shared about his work. Ricardo was a servant leader. He prioritized serving the greater good. Servant leaders do for others first. They serve their teams, their organizations, and their communities first rather than their own objectives. Luke 12:48 reads “To whom much is given, much is required.” This verse exemplifies Ricardo’s beautiful 29 years. He dedicated his life to the service of others. He shared his passion, his knowledge, his time, and his talents with everyone around him. During his career as a police officer and in his role as community service and school resource officer, he established a chess club at the Boys and Girls Club in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey where he taught the children how to play, he provided well over 500 students with back to school book bags filled with supplies, he held countless events in the community including a summer carnival, Easter basket distribution and goodie bags in celebration of Eid for the Muslim children. He fed the homeless with his own money and found them shelter and he personally addressed several at-risk youths to ensure they would stay on track and out of trouble. Ricardo found himself through service to others.
The mission of the Ricardo J. Barbosa Foundation, Inc. is to promote the social and educational advancement of inner-city children and alleviate the social economic burdens of the less fortunate. His family has pledged to work tirelessly to continue his legacy of service to others through acts of kindness. The Foundation relies solely on donations from the public, local supporters, family, and friends.
